Will I look ok in my photos ? The short answer is yes, we are confident you will look your very best.

No one stays 21 years old and super fit for ever, one quick look at the women’s magazines will tell you that even the stars don’t always look as flawless as the movies.

But so much of photography is about how the photo is taken and whether the photographer had the skill or desire to make that person look their very best.

We are all real people, with real lives, however everyone without exception can get great glamour pictures.

So many times people worry too much about their age or their arms or their tummy, at studio9 we don’t worry about such things.

We control the lighting, angles and posing, so that you look and feel your best. See our Before and After pictures to get an idea of what we do.

I can promise you that we will get great pictures of you and after 5 years of portrait photography in Wellington we have never failed yet.

What about hair and make-up or full makeovers ?

What are makeovers ? You would normally associate makeovers with some radical changes to your appearance. For glamour photography this transaltes to :- changing from your “everyday” cloths, hair and makeup to your “nightout” or “glam” look.

While what you wear makes a difference to the final images, the rest of the magic in creating beautiful pictures is the photographic studio.

At studio 9 we know the right poses and lighting to suit your shape and complexion, We want to make you look your very best while still being you!

What is glamour photography anyway ?

What’s it all about ? Glamour photography is all about making the lady look beautiful, the images can be full length but are normally closer in and three quarter length is common.

Glamour isn’t the same as nude or boudoir, although boudoir and lingerie shots can also be classed as glamour, glamour is just making the lady soft, glamourous and beautiful, what ever she is wearing.

What is portrait couture ?

Portrait Couture is glamour photography by another name, well almost…

Glamour was big in the 80’s and 90’s but fell out of fashion for a while. Couture Portraiture is the modern equivalent it’s potraits for the 21st century.

That’s all very well but what’s new in 2014, luckily for Studio9 beautiful pictures are back in demand.

Couture portraiture is the new big thing in the photography industry.

At Studio9 we beleive our challange is to create contemporary images of women, that show their beauty and character.

what is boudoir photography and is it different from glamour portraits ?

Boudoir and glamour photography is often used interchangably, however there is a difference, boudoir as the name translates is suggestive of the bedroom. In most cases it’s somewhere between glamour and nude, more tantalising and imagined than actually revealing.

Boudoir images are most commonly three quarter or full length poses in lingerie or whats known as covered nude. Meaning you look naked but are covered with draping material or clever use of light and shadows to keep the photos suggestive only.

Is studio lighting important ?

Lighting is the paint brush that we use as photographers, understanding lighting quality, direction and intensity controls look and mood of the pictures. Transforming a nice photo into a work of art.

For a smooth and glamourous look we often set the lights for flat beauty lighting or clam shell lighting, this has the advantage of softning the skin and reducing any lines or wringles on the face.

To get a variety of images and different styles we use a main side light to give shape, this lighting also has the benefit of slimming the face and body.

When the aim is to get a dramatic picture or hide elements from the image, we can reduce the fill lighting and increase the shadows creating an interesting and dramatic image.

Is makeup for studio photography different ?

Makeup is important in portrait photography and we need makeup that enhances you looks – it’s also super important that you face and body are in sync, there is nothing worse that a brown body and white face from too much foundation.

Luckily at studio 9 we have make up artists available for your photo shoot, our makeup artists understand the studio lighting environment and can help you create exactly the look you want.

What do I need in a model portfolio ?

What you need for your model portfolios – A variety of expressions and poses is key for your images. The most important aspec of your portfolio is you face, some smiling pictures are required but other expressions and looks are also required.

You need to show you understand posing, your photographer can help you to learn how to hold yourself if you are inexperienced. You need to take direction, art directors are looking for a certain mood and set a scene for a photoshoot. Be confident in front of the camera, your photographer will tell you what to do to make the shoot work.

Could I be a model ?

Is modelling right for you ? The first thing to understand is that it’s not always glamourous or well paid, there is a lot of boring stuff to get through and you will need to compete with a huge number of hopefuls. You need to be tough when you hit rejection and get up and go again.

If you still think modelling is for you, then you need to understand – while looks are important for being a model, the most important thing you need to be a model is confidence. Knowing how to pose and stand can be learnt and a good photographer can help here.

You need to be able to strut your stuff without being shy. It’s also a great asset if you bring a variety of expressions to every photoshoot. You need to be able to change your mood or laugh on que for the camera. It’s not always the model pout that required for every photo.

If you don’t have this confidence, this doesn’t mean you can’t get a lovely portfolio, but you will need to gain experience and work on this aspect of your personality or look for another career.

You can build your portfolio and experience with the right photographer. studio9 is able to get stunning pictures no matter what your experience or confidence and can start you off in the right direction.

If you are inexperienced in posing, having a photoshoot at studio9 will not only get you some great images but also teach you how to stand or pose to get the best pictures.
